I'm sorry, but may I ask what you mean by the value of building your compositions around character expression? Did you simply draw/paint her (remarkable and quite beautiful, admittedly. 
) face, and then decide what to paint/draw around her face for the rest of the composition? Or is there something more subtle that you mean by that?
